Restoring Emma

This Portion of The Blog Has Spoilers

This movie came about when I sort of wanted to do something more ‘twisted’. A part from the two witch movies I made, “Coven Nextdoor” and “Hex” and the “Alien” fan film-horror is a genre that I’ve stayed away from-I feel like I’m more of a psychological thriller guy, they’re both different genres for sure. So, I knew I wanted to do something edgier, something with more scares and more weirdness.

I had seen a movie entitled “Eyes Without A Face”, a French film made in the 1960s. I wanted to use that kind of plot structure, and I’ll willingly admit that if I hadn’t seen that, this movie would not have been made, I guess you could almost consider this a ‘remake’…but I also simplified everything and changed the ending, so maybe not.

This is J. Pao’s first movie, she had seen a few of my short films and said they were great, and it took me a bit to muster up the courage to ask her to be in one. She was very open minded, soft spoken and really great to bounce ideas off of, she asks a lot of questions about the film making process and the script-which I was thrilled to answer.

Adding to the creepiness, I bought a new type of blood makeup online, and it really did the job, poor Katherine (who now has been in three of my shorts) had to lie on the floor as my awesome mom applied the effect (along with blood made by the grandmother, which had been in the fridge and cold!) We had a blast to say the least, and when I showed everyone the final product, a lot of cringing during a ‘certain scene’ happened-which as a storyteller and film maker, was a huge compliment!

This movie was shot in about four days, with all types of new filming techniques and lightning, I really wanted to set a cool mood with this movie and not just point the camera at stuff I liked, I hope horror movie people enjoy!

A GIRL I KNOW (Short Film)

PLOT: A young man named Andrew finally meets his online best friend, Gillian. Soon after-dark secrets and violence emerge for the two of them…

The idea for this movie came about when I was in High School, a student had made a film entitled “Her Best Friend”-I actually gave her the initial plot and played a role in the movie. I then told her I’d do a film that was similar, but it didn’t happen for a bit.

I then saw the brilliant thriller “Gone Girl” directed by my favorite director of all time, David Fincher, and I sort of got the inspiration to tell the story in the way I did.

You’ll recognize the actress, Katherine Martin from her movies “Paw and Order” and my fan film, “Alien: Earthbound.” Her and I actually wrote  the script together-bouncing back and fourth between ideas, so the creation was quite fun, we both knew the type of film it was going to be for sure.

Originally, my cousin Nick was not in the film-but he was kind enough to be in the film for a bit when he came back from California (he was in my vampire film, “Into Darkness” and “The Idols”.) I think the movie is better for it-gives everything a new dimension to have an extra character.

The hardest part of making the film was not the filming itself, that was a blast-what was hard was editing. Being that the plot structure requires certain scenes to be revealed at different points, sometimes it was hard to know how much to give the audience, and we shot out of order-so I had to be careful and watch scenes carefully-all part of the fun process though!

I feel like this film goes back to my older uploads (I.e. “Deadly Seduction” and “Record”) Psychological thrillers are my favorite type of film-and I’ve been making furry movies and comedy skits mostly. So, it was great to sort of go back to the genre that I enjoy the most-I hope you get scared! 🙂

HEX (Short Film)

PLOT: Taking place in the same universe as the Robert Eggers film “The Witch“, this modern day folk-tale begins as a young man looks for his sister-who mysteriously vanished under his care. What follows is a psychological decent into terror and the supernatural….

This movie took only about 3 days to make, but I really wanted to do another horror movie, since I’ve been doing comedy skits. I wanted to go with something surreal and creepy-since I feel like usually my movies are ‘cut and dry’ at points. So, I hope you enjoy.

Alien: Earthbound (Fan Film)

The idea for this movie has been around since I was 14-right after I saw the 1979 movie, “Alien.” I wanted to see this creature on earth-no other movies had done it, NOT including the horrible “Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem”, since I don’t count it as part of the series.

The script I had written at the time-was lost since I have gotten new laptops since then, but re-writing it was no issue, since I still had all my ideas, and added new ones since seeing “Prometheus” and playing “Alien: Isolation.” I originally wanted to make this movie right around the time the game out, and I even filmed with another actress and I thought it would happen. However, personal issues happened and I was yet again forced to put this movie on the back burner.

Fast forward to now, I have new actors who love being in front of camera and I got my new camera about a week and a half ago.

Around that time, I caught “Alien” on TV-and I thought ‘I need to make the fan film.’ I had waited long enough and wanted my idea out there for everyone to see! Enjoy! 🙂
